Event Highlights | CIS UOI Assembly : Growth from Inquiry to Action

This week, students from the ECE to Elementary levels at CIS Foshan gathered at the W Hall Auditorium for a lively and creative UOI (Unit of Inquiry) Assembly.

As an IB PYP candidate school, CIS encourages students to actively inquire and collaborate in real-life contexts. Through music, dance, role-play, and language presentations, students showcased their learning outcomes and growth from their current units of inquiry.

The assembly was hosted by six elementary students, who led the program and awards ceremony entirely in English, demonstrating strong language skills and teamwork on a real stage.

ECE performances were full of innocence and reflected the characteristic of early-stage inquiry learning: “starting from daily life.”

PK2 – "Five Little Monkeys",using rhythm, movement, and storytelling, the children developed language skills and physical coordination.

PK3 – "Community Helpers Fashion Show", bringing learning into real-life contexts, children learned about different professions through role-play and understood the support and connections among community members.

PK4 -“Daily Affirmations”, through song and dance, children built self-confidence and shared mindfulness messages to inspire themselves and others.

PK5-"Bug Superhero Performance", combining stage performance with imagination, children explored the world of living creatures. Classroom videos on the big screen allowed the audience to witness their full learning journey.

At the elementary school level, presentations highlighted interdisciplinary understanding, global perspectives, and diverse forms of expression.

G1 – "Hello Around the World", using multiple languages and cultural elements, students introduced connections across cultures, reflecting the open-mindedness central to CIS’s international education.

G2 – "Life Cycles", students brought scientific concepts to the stage, portraying the growth and transformation of life. This performance enhanced both understanding and skills in collaboration and expression.

Students in G3, G4, and G5 showcased confidence on stage across multiple performances. The opening dance "Champion", by ASA street dance students, ignited the audience with energy, rhythm, and teamwork. G5 students further impressed with a street dance performance and two solo songs, "Rewrite the Stars" and "From The Start", conveying emotion and courage, reflecting their growth in the arts.

G6 – "Solar System", leading the audience on a journey through space, senior students combined scientific inquiry with creative expression, showcasing knowledge, teamwork, and stage presence.

The event also featured an awards segment, recognizing students from Kindergarten to Primary for their active engagement in inquiry learning, reading, music, Chinese language, and school life.

The awards focused not only on learning outcomes but also on students’ demonstration of inquiry, communication, care for others, courage to try, and reflective growth. Each recognition encouraged children to acknowledge their efforts and continue becoming proactive, confident, and responsible learners.

These awards recognize children’s inquiry, communication, care for others, courage to try, and reflective growth in everyday learning.

These awards honor students’ sustained engagement and active performance in these subjects, encouraging them to express themselves boldly and continue progressing in different areas.

These awards recognize students’ active participation in school activities, demonstrating responsibility and community awareness through documenting school memories and engaging in cultural interactions.

The showcase was organized and planned by IB PYP Coordinator Ms. Michelle, who shared her observations:

“From the preparation to the actual performance, I observed the children gradually building confidence, learning to cooperate, and presenting their learning in their own ways. Behind each performance were their thoughts, practice, and efforts. In PYP learning, the focus is not merely on the final showcase but on how students inquire, connect, express, and reflect during the process. Seeing them share their understanding naturally and confidently on stage was the most touching aspect of this event.”

This UOI assembly was not only an exciting school event but also a concentrated display of CIS’s inquiry-based learning outcomes.
